Who is NNPBC membership for?
NNPBC membership is open to nurses and nurse practitioners across BC at every stage of their career, including:
- Practicing RNs, LPNs, RPNs and NPs registered with BCCNM
- Students enrolled in a recognized nursing program who are not yet practicing
- Non-practicing and retired nurses who want to stay connected to the profession
- Internationally educated nurses (IENs) planning to pursue licensure in BC

There are two ways to join NNPBC, depending on whether you are a practicing or licensed nursing professional, or joining as a non-practicing member, including as a student or retired nurse.
During BCCNM registration
If you’re registering with BCCNM this year, you can sign up for or renew your NNPBC membership at the same time by opting in to NNPBC membership during the BCCNM registration process.
This gives you access to the NNPBC member group rate for CNPS Professional Liability Protection, required for RNs, RPNs and LPNs.

- Start your annual registration renewal with BCCNM
- When prompted, select Nurses and Nurse Practitioners of BC (NNPBC) for membership
- Your NNPBC membership and CNPS PLP group rate will be processed together as part of your BCCNM registration.
- You will then receive a confirmation email directly from NNPBC with information about your membership.
Directly on our website
If you are not registering with BCCNM, you can sign up or renew your NNPBC membership directly on our website.
This option is best for anyone who isn’t planning to be licensed to practice, including non-practicing students, retired nurses and others.

Please note: Even though you can sign up for both at the same time, NNPBC membership is distinct from registration with the BC College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM). Registration with BCCNM is required to practice. Membership with NNPBC is voluntary and focuses on supporting you and the profession.

NNPBC membership is open to all four nursing designations in British Columbia: Registered Nurses (RNs), Licensed Practical Nurses (LPNs), Registered Psychiatric Nurses (RPNs), and Nurse Practitioners (NPs). We also welcome nursing students, internationally educated nurses, retired nurses and non-practicing members.
No. NNPBC membership is optional and provides access to professional resources, advocacy, learning opportunities, wellbeing supports and lifestyle discounts.
No. Membership is open to nurses and nurse practitioners even if they are not currently practicing or working in British Columbia.
No. NNPBC membership is now managed separately from BCCNM registration and licence renewal. If you would like to become a member or renew your membership, you must do so directly through our website.
NNPBC is your professional nursing association. We support professional development, provide member programs and benefits, and advocate on behalf of nurses and nurse practitioners in health and social policy.
BCCNM is the regulatory college. They establish standards of practice, set registration and licensing requirements, and are responsible for public protection and professional regulation.
Unions represent nurses in their role as employees. They negotiate collective agreements, including compensation and working conditions, and address workplace and employment-related matters.
Membership is valid for one year, from April 1 to March 31, and renews annually unless cancelled.

Membership provides access to professional liability and insurance options, continuing education discounts, wellbeing and mental health supports, career resources, advocacy initiatives, recognition programs, national nursing connections and exclusive lifestyle discounts.
Professional liability protection requirements vary by nursing designation. NNPBC members who are RNs, RPNs and NPs are eligible for preferred group rates through the Canadian Nurses Protective Society (CNPS).
