Job summary

The short version:

You’ll be the Clinical Lead of a membership-based family health practice in Victoria — 30–45 minute visits, a panel of families you’ll know by name for years, an integrated allied health team working alongside you, and a structured first-year support program built so you’re never practicing alone, even when you’re the NP on site. If you became a nurse practitioner to actually know your families and help them get ahead of problems instead of chasing them, this is that job.

About Sprout:

Sprout Family Health is a membership-based practice for families with young children in Victoria, BC. We provide relational, family-centered care — the wraparound layer of care the public system was never designed to provide. Our members are parents and kids under one roof, cared for as a household: because your family is a system, and when one part shifts, everything shifts.

We don’t wait for problems. Our care blends clinical expertise with prevention, development, and lifestyle guidance, delivered by a team that includes a Health Navigator (RN), physiotherapist, occupational therapist, speech-language pathologist, clinical counsellor, and parenting coach. Members see the same team every time.

We’re honest about scope: we’re not an emergency department, we don’t run 24/7 on-call, and we refer out when a family needs something beyond us. What we do, we do deeply and well.

Key responsibilities

The role:

As Clinical Lead, you’ll deliver relational, longitudinal care to Sprout’s member families — parents and kids alike — and set the clinical direction for our integrated allied health team.

Your days will look like:

30–45 minute visits. Enough time to actually listen, examine, teach, and plan — with families you’ll see again and again.
Thorough assessments, personalized care plans, and follow-up you own from start to finish, coordinated with the allied team.
Building prevention and education into everyday care: development check-ins, lifestyle-focused planning, helping families get ahead of the things that tend to catch young families off guard.

Clinical leadership: case coordination with the allied team, shaping how our programs work, and a real voice in where the practice goes next. You’ll co-create here, not just deliver.

You’ll practice autonomously — and you won’t practice alone. Our Health Navigator (RN) triages member questions Monday–Friday, handles the first line of response, and gets the right things to you at the right time.

Your supported first year:

We know the jump into independent practice — or into a new model of practice — deserves real scaffolding, not a pep talk. So we built a program for it:

  • A contracted medical mentor, with weekly scheduled case review and same-day reachability for the “can I just run this by someone” moments.
  • A deliberate ramp: a smaller panel for your first 90 days, growing on a published schedule as your confidence and systems settle in.
  • Written escalation protocols for the situations you’d want them for, plus overlap with our bridge NP during your transition.
  • $2,000 annual education allowance, plus BCCNM licensure dues covered.

You bring the clinical judgment. We make sure there’s always a next person to call.

Qualifications

What we’re looking for:

  • A licensed Nurse Practitioner registered (or registration in progress) with BCCNM, able to work at least 3 days per week in person at our clinic in Victoria’s James Bay.
  • Warmth as a default. Members — kids especially — should leave feeling seen. You remember the kiddo’s name.
  • A solid clinical foundation across family health needs, with genuine passion and skill in pediatrics.
  • Belief in the model. This is a membership practice built on prevention, education, and long-term relationships. Members choose us, and we choose them back. If your ideal practice is high-volume episodic visits, this won’t be a fit — and that’s okay.
  • Curiosity and humility. You stay a learner, you can say “I don’t know, let me find out,” and you’re excited to practice in new ways — more teaching, more prevention, more partnership with families.
  • Clarity and honesty. You explain things plainly, label uncertainty honestly, and name the limits of scope without flinching.

We believe the families we serve are already enough — capable, whole, doing their best in a world that makes health hard. We hire people who see them that way too.

Compensation & benefits

The practical details

  • Compensation: $110–$130/hour, based on experience — as an independent contractor role.
  • Schedule: Minimum 3 days per week in person at our clinic in James Bay, Victoria, with flexibility to deliver some care virtually around that. This role requires living in (or relocating to) Victoria — and we’ll help the right candidate relocate.
  • Coming from elsewhere? Come on over. We warmly welcome applications from NPs practicing in other Canadian provinces and from nurse practitioners in the United States who’ve been dreaming about life on Vancouver Island. Canadian NPs registered in another province can generally transfer their registration to BCCNM; internationally educated NPs (including US-trained) go through a longer BCCNM assessment process. We’ll be honest with you about timelines either way, and we’ll support you through registration and relocation.
  • Start: We’re hiring now, with a target start of early September 2026.
  • Growth: Clinical Lead is a real seat at the table. Program design, team development, and the direction of the practice are conversations you’ll be in from day one.
