Advica Health Services

Nurses and nurse practitioners dedicate their careers to caring for others, often while balancing the demands of work and daily life.

Looking after your own mental health is an important part of sustaining that care. Whether you’re managing stress, burnout, a major life change, or simply seeking extra support, help is available.

Through its partnership with Advica Health, NNPBC is proud to offer the Mental Health on Demand (MHOD) program, powered by GreenShield+, providing nurses, nurse practitioners and their immediate family members with fast, confidential access to virtual mental health support.

What’s included

Getting support when you need it shouldn’t be limited by cost or access. Through this program, nurses and nurse practitioners can access confidential virtual therapy at a significantly lower cost than the average price of counselling services in BC. It’s one more way we’re helping make mental health support more accessible, timely, and meaningful for you and your immediate family.

As part of this program, you and your dependents can access:

  • One (1) hour of complimentary individual therapy
  • One (1) hour of complimentary couples therapy
  • Ongoing virtual therapy at a discounted rate of $110/hour
  • Therapy appointments often available within one (1) business day
  • Complimentary Children’s Mental Health Support
  • Complimentary Indigenous Mental Health Support
  • 24/7, 365 days a year crisis support line
  • Self-guided internet-based Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (iCBT)
  • Access a diverse network of therapists and get matched to the right fit through comprehensive therapist-matching questionnaire

Frequently Asked Questions

No. This program is available to both NNPBC members and non-members.

Information shared in your appointments will be treated as strictly confidential and cannot be shared without your written or legal consent. Your employer or NNPBC will not know that you accessed the services, nor will they know any of the information you share with your care provider. There are, however, certain limits to confidentiality which your care provider will discuss with you at your first appointment.

Limits to confidentiality include:

  • In cases where the law requires disclosure
  • When there is imminent danger to yourself or others
  • When there is reasonable suspicion that a child, elder or any vulnerable person is being abused or neglected

Your client data is stored locally and securely within server located in Canada.

Advica Health administers and supports the Mental Health on Demand (MHOD) program on behalf of NNPBC. GreenShield+ is the secure platform Advica Health uses for you to register, log in, and access your mental health services. You will need to create a GreenShield+ account to use the benefits provided through the Advica Health program.

Dependents are people who have access to the services through the primary member’s coverage. In general, dependents include:

  • Child up to the age of 25
  • Spouse of the primary member (common law or legally married)

In order for your child or spouse to book a therapy session, they need to create an account using the same organization code as you.

For non-minors (18+), dependents can simply create an account using their own email address and the organization code and continue through the matching and book process on the platform. You can view the instructions here.

For minors (under 18), there are two options:

  • Create an alias email if the child is not old enough to have their own email account. For example, as a parent you can use a modified version of your own email address by adding a “+” to the prefix of the email address. If your email address is jane@email.com, then your child can be registered using jane+child@email.com or jane+daughter@email.com. This will create two separate accounts where appointments can be booked separately but the email confirmations, reminders etc. will all be sent to jane@email.com.
  • Have the child sign up using their own email account but configure the email settings to forward emails from the platform to the parent’s email account. This can usually be done via email filters and will ensure that the child has their own account login, but the parent can easily keep track of their communication/appointments.

The option you choose depends on the maturity level of the minor child, level of parental involvement, and ability of the child to consent to the Informed Consent policy, amongst other factors.

Yes. Eligible participants and their dependents can access one (1) complimentary hour of individual therapy and one (1) complimentary hour of couples therapy. These are separate benefits and can be used based on your support needs.

Often therapists are able to book virtual appointments with members as quickly as within the next 48 hours. As you can view the therapist’s calendar and availability seamlessly, you are free to select any available appointment that fits your needs and schedule.

Once your complimentary therapy session(s) have been used, you can continue accessing virtual therapy through the same GreenShield+ platform at a discounted rate of $110 per hour. You can continue working with a therapist from the GreenShield+ network and access ongoing support when needed.

Access a robust and diverse network of counsellors who bring deep expertise and cultural understanding to their practice. Every counsellor in the network:

  • Holds a minimum of a master’s degree in a relevant field.
  • Has at least 5 years of clinical experience.
  • Is in good standing with their professional college or licensing body.

All care providers undergo a stringent vetting process before becoming part of the network. They are experienced in various clinical settings and must obtain specific designations to practice.

To match you to the most effective and suited counsellor, GreenShield+ uses a proprietary algorithm that integrates information related to your specific issues and preferences (e.g., religion, language, appointment availability, and over 50 different filters) to produce a short-list of best-matched counsellors for you to choose from.

Once you login into your account and click on “Match with an individual or couples counsellor”, complete the questionnaire and be matched with a therapist based on your preferences and responses.
