RPN Advocacy Toolkit

April 2024

Registered psychiatric nurses bring specialized expertise in mental health, substance use and psychiatric care, while also supporting broader physical and psychosocial health needs. RPNs work across a range of settings in British Columbia, and their education, scope of practice and experience give them an important perspective on care, health system challenges and opportunities for improvement.

The NNPBC Registered Psychiatric Nurse Advocacy Toolkit is designed to help BC RPNs communicate that perspective more effectively. It provides practical guidance for increasing awareness of the RPN role and engaging with the people who influence public understanding, policy and health-care decisions.

The toolkit includes step-by-step guidance and tips for speaking with media, using social media for advocacy, and writing to elected and government representatives.

NNPBC is the professional association representing all four nursing designations in BC. Through our advocacy work, we support nurses to contribute their knowledge and experience to conversations about the nursing profession and the future of health care in BC.
